WordPress Course – Blogging, Branding and Growth – Update

Posted by

Have you had a go at any of the free WordPress courses there are on offer?  No?  I hadn’t either until I happened to come across the information while looking in the WordPress Reader.  I love looking in the WordPress Reader, it’s a great way of discovering new blog posts to read and also a way of finding new bloggers to follow.  In April I looked at a WordPress course called Blogging, Branding and Growth.  I really enjoyed looking at this because it involved analysing what I was doing and setting goals.

WordPress suggested three goals so I decided to go for the challenge!

One of the goals was to include a regular feature in my blog.  Well, me being me, I couldn’t decide what to have as a regular feature.  I racked my brains thinking of something I could feature weekly, I thought about Motivational Monday and Fiona’s Find Out Friday, but I know at the moment life is a little hectic so I wasn’t sure I would be able to commit and didn’t want to let anybody down.  I thought about making my “seventies childhood” a regular feature but that’s a tricky one as it is more of a spontaneous write, I think about a childhood memory and then feel compelled to write about it.  Well finally I decided I am going  to write about each month I have had, at the end of each month.  I am hoping this will give me a sense of achievement as well as providing something that you will hopefully enjoy reading.  My first one is July Roundup I also intend to write my goals and aims for the following month so watch this space!

If you would like to read about when I started the Blogging and Branding course, you can find it here.

Another goal on the WordPress course was to try and increase  my followers by 20% In April I had 203 followers, including Twitter followers and followers through the WordPress reader or those who click follow on my website. I worked this out to aim for 243.6 followers.  Yes I know having .6 of a follower was going to be a bit of a long shot but hey!  So how have I done?

Well I am thrilled to be able to announce that as of today, 1st August, I have the grand total of 310 followers on my blog 😀😀😀 I’m truly amazed by that because three months ago it was about 200, so in three months I have got over one hundred more of you lovely people following my blog.  I really am so grateful and I hope that you still enjoy reading what I write.  If you have anything you would like me to write about in particular, I would love to hear from you!  My Twitter follows have increased greatly too.  Astonishingly I have 1828 followers on Twitter which I never would have ever dreamt of!  I love interacting with other bloggers via social media.  The blogging community really is that – a community- and we are all so supportive of each other.  It feels a privilege to be a part of it, to be able to talk to such a lovely bunch of people and I am happy to consider a few as friends, although we will probably never meet…

So all in all I can tick off two of my goals 😊 I’ve decided on, and started, a regular feature and I have increased my followers by more than I had hoped.

I have one more goal that I set in April and that is this one:

I would like to increase my daily hits by 30% by the end of the year.  Well at the moment the average is, hang on I need to do a bit of maths here: the amount of visitors 1-13 April is 134, so that’s an average of 10.3 a day, so multiply by 30 for an average month is 309 visitors per month.  An increase of 30% would give me a target of about 402 visitors a month  Wow that’s a lot!  Anyway let’s go for it, that’s my goal for the end of the year.

So I’ll have a look at that one in December and see how I get on…

❤️ Thank you so much for reading and do look at the WordPress courses, they are such a great idea and I really wish I’d known about them when I started my blog in January!

  1. I didn’t know anything about these courses so I’m really pleased that you decided to write a post about them! Congratulations on reaching two of your goals. I started a monthly feature back in March as I felt the monthly timescale was much more manageable than weekly. Good luck with your monthly roundup and fingers crossed you achieve your goal to increase your daily hits by 30% by the end of the year – I’m sure you will 🙂

  2. I’m definitely going to check the courses out now. It’s great to see that you’re hitting and surpassing your goals, keep it up! Thanks for sharing.
