April Sunshine and Looking Forward to Summer 😃

There is something about April that brings a feeling of optimism and happiness. I don’t know exactly what it is and I don’t know why either, but there’s just something about it,  Maybe I’m feeling this particularly because the last few days have been glorious.  If you’re in the southern part of the UK you’ll know I mean.  Yesterday was beautiful and sunny and hot and today was even hotter.  When I got in my car after work today, the temperature read 31 degrees.  31!  I’m not going to moan because I love the sunshine but that was a bit uncomfortable, as in – ouch I can’t even touch the steering wheel, let alone hold it to drive.  I tried moving my car into the shade for ten minutes to try and cool it down a bit, but that didn’t make any difference, windows open, no difference and air conditioning takes a while to kick in – that kind of hot.

Look at the beautiful blue sky, not a single cloud!

It’s funny how we, in Britain at least, talk about the weather a lot.  Is it like this in other parts of the world?  It is the first topic of conversation in many different circumstances I think.  If you go to the hairdresser, main subjects are what you are doing that day/evening, where you’re going on holiday and the weather.  We are great at discussing the weather.  If it’s snowing that’s a major topic  of conversation  – for days.  We’ll moan about it when it starts to snow, panic about it when it’s a centimetre deep (yes I know!) panic more when it snows more, say how bad the roads are etc etc…we will even continue to talk about it when it’s gone.  We discuss the rain, wind, sun, fog, hail, you name it we’ll discuss it!  imagine what it would be like if we were unfortunate enough to regularly experience hurricanes, tornados or monsoons, we’d never be quiet at all.

Sorry I go off track so easily sometimes…

Doesn’t it make everyone in a happier mood when the sun is shining? Even people that are usually grumpy are cheery! The atmosphere everywhere just seems so much more friendly and warm, friendly warm – not hot warm.  About a month ago the weather was pretty dismal, it was rainy and cold,  we had snow last month for goodness sake.  What a contrast!  What a massive improvement.

A couple of weeks ago I was looking critically at our garden thinking how horrible and depressing it looked,  I also made a point at looking at most other gardens I travelled past as a point of comparison and theirs all looked dull and boring too.  So we got busy in the garden and it’s not dull anymore!

We’ve planted loads of pansies and violas, also some called panolas which I hadn’t heard of but I assume are a cross of the above,  we’ve planted some gorgeous pink carnations and purple and white aubretia, plus some others that I can’t remember the name of.  Now with the different coloured tulips and of course the pretty pink blossom on the ornamental cherry tree, the garden looks lovely (apart from the weeds that keep creeping back in)  oh and we bought a hanging trough thing to go under the window which looks really pretty too.

So a couple of weeks can make a huge difference.  It’s weird.  I’m now really looking forward to the summer and May is only 12 days away with it’s bank holidays and my birthday! 😃 I need to start thinking about sorting out summer clothes, pretty dresses, strappy tops, sandals and sunglasses.  Ooh I need to get myself a new pair of sunglasses.  I looked for them yesterday and do you think I could find them?  No of course  not.  So I shall make the most of that situation – turn it into a positive and buy myself a lovely new pair, I quite fancy pink this time 🙂

Sorry about the Snapchat photos – my lovely eleven year old niece introduced me to it a couple of weeks ago and photos of me with filters are 5 million times better than  photos of me without!

  1. The flowers look beautiful! Springtime is always my favourite, it’s kind of the lead up to summer which is so exciting! And it’s the time of year when I start feeling more relaxed. Weather is a prevalent topic in NZ too.

  2. Aw, I love all the flower pictures! The weather thing makes me laugh because when I used to love in India, it was sunny ALL year round (except for the monsoon season). And I used to love the monsoons because it got all cloudy and rainy and windy and that felt amazing. Now in the UK, I can’t wait for the sun and blue skies. It really is all relative. 🙂

  4. Thanks Laura, haha I just remembered I saw a neighbour earlier and the first thing I said was how nice the weather is today!! We still have more tulips coming out I think we planted 150 new bulbs last year all over the place and some are still in bud now, they’re lovely in all different colours aren’t they? Thanks for reading 😊
