I feel so happy when someone asks me that question! I’m really fussy when it comes to tea I’m afraid. My worst nightmare if out with friends, or visiting family or any occasion where tea is involved, is someone just making the tea and bringing to me. God that makes me sound really ungrateful doesn’t it? Well it’s not really a major catastrophe I know, but you know what I mean.
Disclaimer: this post is not meant to offend anyone, make people paranoid or think they have lost the ability to make tea. It is not the intention that you lose the will to make tea ever again.
You see I like my tea a certain way. Some people are a lot more easily accommodated and just say, “As it comes,” when asked. Bleeurgh if someone puts more milk than necessary in my tea it makes me feel like heaving. I don’t know if it’s because I don’t like milk as a drink, but 🤢. I was at a gathering in a friend’s garden last summer and someone else was being really kind and making the tea for everyone, sadly for me she made everyone the tea as she liked it: show the water the tea bag and fill the cup half full with milk. Confession time – I actually let it go cold and accidentally spilt it in a flower bed when no one was looking. I did it for the right reason though – I didn’t want to be rude or look fussy 😳 and certainly didn’t want to offend anybody.
I really love a decent cup of tea. I love my cup of tea first thing in the morning – I think that’s probably my favourite drink of the whole day . Putting the kettle on is the first thing I do when I get in from work too. I think it’s a bit of a British institution. When someone visits a friend or family member, the first thing you are offered is a cup of tea, if someone is in shock they are made a cup of tea, give blood – have a cup of tea. A lovely pot of tea shared with friends is just a nice thing isn’t it? Actually I’m not sure if tea is going out of favour a bit now, people tend to meet for coffee, but that’s another story…
Aren’t we funny how we all like it differently. I wonder why we do. How long do you leave the teabag in for? Some like it weak, some strong, some just in the middle. Then there is the question of how much milk – a dash, a splash, a drop, just a normal amount (whatever that means!) lots, half and half… You also have the additional complication of sugar, most would say none or one or two, then you get awkward people like me who want a fraction of a spoonful.
Me? Brewed for about two minutes so nice and strong, three quarters of a spoon of sugar (I’m trying to cut it out so slowly transitioning from one to none!) and just a splash of milk please. Lovely ❤️
I might do more posts about tea, another time, perhaps talking about different types. Herbal teas are nice too.
