Rainbow Bridge, a poem to comfort those who have suffered the loss of a beloved pet

It has been a week now since my beautiful Pepsi lost his fight with kidney disease. I still feel extremely sad, yet part of me can’t really believe that I will never see his perfect little face, or watch him trotting gracefully down the  garden path, as if in a dressage competition, again.  I try to make myself feel better by picturing him reunited with Chloe, his lovely sister who tragically got hit by a car when she was only three.  I searched this week for a poem that I previously found on the internet when I lost Chloe.

The poem is called Rainbow Bridge and the concept is lovely.  It really makes you feel that your beloved pets are healthy and happy again and waiting for you in a special place until it is your time to join them. It gives me comfort to believe that my precious cats are together and full of joy, free from any ailments or pain. I can’t imagine how many  other people have found peace and relief from these words but I am very grateful to whoever wrote it.

RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies who has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

  1. I lost few cats in the past, but now my 3 little friends are super special. I wouldn’t think my future without them and wouldn’t think how sad I will be without them. I can only imagine how you feel and need comfort for your loss, but yeah at least your little one is in a good place with no pain.
